Trade Watch: 3 Forwards Being Discussed in Deals

The 2022-23 NHL season is roughly 15 games in for most teams across the league. While there hasn't been a ton of player movement to this point, trade chatter has picked up of late and we can expect to see some wheeling and dealing taken place in the very near future. Here's three forwards rumored to being discussed on the trade market:

Kasperi Kapanen

The Pittsburgh Penguins forward has been a healthy scratch the past two games and is in the coach's doghouse. He's been a disappointment offensively for the Penguins with only one goal, meanwhile he's a $3.2 million cap hit this season and next. At 26, Kapanen still appeals to other teams but at this point, doesn't appear to have a place on Pittsburgh's roster. Expect a move in the coming weeks.

Nick Ritchie

The Arizona Coyotes aren't afraid to make moves, along as the focus remains on the future and stock-piling assets. Nick Ritchie is a forward that's available as the pending free agent can bring a lot to the table on any given night. At 6-foot-2 and 230lbs, Ritchie is a big frame who can provide some secondary scoring on a good team. The trade chatter has begun as he's recently been linked to the St Louis Blues.

Pierre Engvall

The Toronto Maple Leafs are open to moving one of their depth forwards and Pierre Engvall is a prime target. He's been moved all over their lineup as they've tried numerous times to find a secured spot for him, but unfortunately for both sides it just hasn't worked out regardless of what role he's given. Engvall has scored just once in 14 games and is a pending free agent making $2.25 million against the cap. The Maple Leafs will likely have to sweeten the pot to get a team to bite on acquiring their struggling forward.
