3 New York Islanders Trade Targets

The New York Islanders are expected to be buyers before the March 3 NHL trade deadline. The Isles are entering the holiday season with a record of 18-13-2, currently sitting in the second wild card position in the Eastern Conference. Management will be looking to make a splash before the deadline, here's some potential trade targets who could find themselves on route to Long Island:

Patrick Kane

The Islanders would love to add Kane to their offense, however with a full no-movement clause, the Blackhawks legend will hold all the cards. Several of hockey's best insiders feel the Isles are a sleeper in the sweepstakes. New York holds all their necessary draft picks to make this deal work and will have to depart with one player with a significant contract to finalize the trade. Anthony Beauvillier is a player to watch here. As for Kane, some believe he wants to go to a team where he'll re-sign, New York makes sense.

Bo Horvat

The Vancouver Canucks are open for business and their captain Bo Horvat will be moved before the trade deadline. There's been a lot of talk about how if the Canucks receive the offer they are looking for long before the March 3 deadline, they will pull the trigger. Vancouver wants a young center and a right-handed defenseman, two things the Islanders don't necessarily have a ton of. Horvat does not hold any trade protection and can be moved to the Islanders at will.

Timo Meier

The Islanders want to add to their offense in a big way and Timo Meier from the San Jose Sharks would be a huge get. His style matches perfectly to the Islanders and Meier could be a plug-and-play winger for the team's top six. So far in 34 games, the Swiss winger has 32 points. He's a restricted free agent at season's end, one thing which could be a huge factor in Islanders management agreeing to send a huge package to San Jose. The team control is very appealing and this is not a case of selling the farm for a rental.
