NHL Rumors: Oilers Linked To Another Ducks' Defenceman

Nothing seems to be working in regards to the Edmonton Oilers' defence this season and with inexperience regularly in the lineup, the team is searching for a defender on the market. That defenceman may come in the form of Kevin Shattenkirk as the Oilers have expressed interest in the player this season, per David Pagnotta.

Shattenkirk is 33 years old and has just nine assists in 31 games this season. It may not be the best indication of what he still has left in the tank as the Anaheim Ducks are very bad this season. Last season the defenceman scored eight goals and 35 points in 82 games which is a better indication of what he could bring to the Oilers.

I wouldn't expect Shattenkirk to be more than the sixth defenceman on the team and he would probably have to line up on his off side. If a trade does happen, it would take Markus Niemelainen and Philip Broberg out of the lineup.

The Oilers and Ducks' general managers have been seen meeting multiple times already this season. The thought was that Puljujarvi was the main topic of conversation. That could be right, but Shattenkirk could be a piece coming back to address what the Oilers really need.
