Red Wings About To Get Boost From Return Of Sniper

Jakub Vrana is set to return to hockey and will play a three game conditioning stint in the AHL with the Grand Rapids Griffins. He has played just two games for the Detroit Red Wings this season and scored one goal and one assist.

Vrana hasn't played very many games since being traded to the Red Wings, but he has been productive offensively when he has been in the lineup. When he came over to Detroit in 2020-21, he scored eight goals and 11 points in 11 games. He followed that up with 13 goals and 19 points in 26 games last season.

If Vrana could stay in the lineup, it would give the Red Wings a big boost as they are in the playoff race this season and the trajectory of the team is headed upwards. He is now 26 years old and has one more season left on his deal with a cap hit of $5.25 million AAV.

Where Vrana will fit into the lineup remains to be seen, but he could slot in on the first or second line left wings with Tyler Bertuzzi out of the lineup and Adam Erne or Michael Rasmussen holding those spots. The Red Wings will be happy to have their sniper back in the lineup.
