3 Potential Trade Destinations for Blackhawks Athanasiou

The Chicago Blackhawks are set to have a massive fire sale ahead of the 2023 trade deadline. Basically anybody is in play and general manager Kyle Davidson is trying to do whatever he can to increase the team's chances of drafting Connor Bedard. Davidson appears set to move pending free agent Andreas Athanasiou before the deadline, here's three potential destinations:

LA Kings

The Kings are in the market for help up front and could bring back the familiar face in Athanasiou. The 28-year-old is having a mediocre season in his first in Chicago, recording only eight goals in 38 games. He had 17 points in 28 games last season for the Kings and this could be fresh on Kings GM Rob Blake's mind.

Calgary Flames

The Flames have been calling the Blackhawks for weeks and it's apparently been about Athanasiou and Max Domi. Domi appears to want to re-sign in Chicago, meanwhile Athanasiou appears to be available to the highest bidder. We'll see if that's Flames GM Brad Treliving, as the team is getting desperate and needs to add some more offense for down the stretch.

Buffalo Sabres

The Sabres are close, they sit only six points out of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference and if they can string together some wins down the stretch, expect to see some rentals acquired. Athanasiou plays a speed and skill game, which the Sabres could use more of. He'll likely cost a third-round pick and a mid-level prospect to acquire, some Buffalo could easily afford.
