NHL Rumors: Flames To Target Blues' Sniper At Deadline

The Calgary Flames are looking for scoring help on the wing for their playoff run. It is still no guarantee that they will even be playing postseason games with how close the race in the west is. This is why they need something to at least get them in and potentially make a run.

Frank Seravalli said that the Flames are looking for rentals over a player with term, so Vladimir Tarasenko is a player the Flames could target. The St. Louis Blues have just about fully fallen out of the playoff race and Tarasenko is going to be moved since he isn't going to re-sign.

The Flames have a couple of large contracts kicking in next season and may look to move a couple of pieces around in the offseason, so they want to see how this year goes. Tarasenko is the exact type of high-class winger the team could use in the top-six. The Flames have been playing Milan Lucic on the second line and he is out of place.

Tarasenko brings a $7.5 million cap hit, but the Blues would have to retain a portion of that to make a deal work. The Flames have prospects and picks for the Blues to pick from, but since Tarasenko only has 10 goals and 29 points this season, don't expect a top prospect to be headed the other way. Look for a player from the Flames' roster to also head to St. Louis if a deal is struck to clear up necessary cap space.
