NHL Rumors: Oilers Making Trade Offers for Specific Need

The Edmonton Oilers are going to be busy before the March 3 trade deadline. General manager Ken Holland is never shy to try and upgrade his hockey club and this season will be no different. According to multiple reports, the Oilers are in the market for a left-handed defenseman.

The Oilers are in desperate need of some more help on their blue line and with Tyson Barrie, Evan Bouchard, and Cody Ceci on their right side and Brett Kulak who can play both sides, the Oilers are looking for some help on their left side. The team is willing to give Philip Broberg some more time to development but are looking for another impact defender to help their group.

As far as trade candidates go, the Oilers are trying to move Jesse Puljujarvi in any deal. Management is trying to do right by the player and give him the change of scenery he needs. Edmonton currently have just over $2 million in cap space to work with and Puljujarvi is making $3 million this season.

The team is also expected to welcome back Evander Kane and his $5.1 million salary so their financial situation is going to get complicated in the coming weeks. The Oilers have been linked to a number of defensemen including Vladislav Gavrikov of the Columbus Blue Jackets and Montreal Canadiens blueliner Joel Edmundson.
