NHL Rumors: Sharks Timo Meier Finished in San Jose

The San Jose Sharks appear headed for a divorce with their best player. Forward Timo Meier is a pending restricted free agent who is set for a $10 million qualifying offer this upcoming summer. The Sharks aren't interested in the QO, so have been given other teams permission to discuss a contract extension with Meier and his agent. The writing is on the wall in San Jose, Meier is finished as a trade is expected in the next five weeks.

Meier's agent is NHL alum Claude Lemieux, and Lemieux recently spoke to the media regarding his client's future with the Sharks and mentioned it's very realistic to think Meier ends up on another team this season.

Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet confirmed Sharks general manager Mike Grier has given other teams permission to discuss a contract extension with Lemieux and Meier as a sign-and-trade appears on the horizon.

Meier discussed the trade rumors over last weekend and confirmed having contract extension talks makes sense for this whole process. The Swiss power forward is on pace for a career season and was busy over the weekend trying to impress teams with another element of his game....
