Florida Panthers Sign Defenseman to Extension

Earlier this season, the Florida Panthers quietly claimed Josh Mahura off of waivers from the Anaheim Ducks. Now, just a handful of months later, Florida has now signed Mahura to a one-year, $925K contract extension.

While with the Ducks, Mahura had trouble cementing himself as a full-time NHL defenseman, and it ultimately led to his eventual waiver placement. However, things have changed on that front with the Panthers, as he has been a nice addition to their group since his arrival. In 54 games on the year, he has set new career highs with four goals, seven assists, and 11 points. Overall, he has been everything and more that the Panthers expected, and now he has earned this nice extension because of it.

It is hard not to feel happy for Mahura with this news. However, we will now need to wait and see how he responds to signing this extension through his play from here.
