Montreal Canadiens Rumors: Defenseman Linked to Division Rival

The Montreal Canadiens are gearing up to be sellers at the 2023 NHL Trade Deadline, and one of their primary trade targets is Joel Edmundson. Teams like the Boston Bruins, Carolina Hurricanes, Edmonton Oilers, and Los Angeles Kings have been linked to him, but according to The Fourth Period, now a surprising team has entered the mix – the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Canadiens and Maple Leafs are big rivals, so one may assume that they would never do business together. However, the Canadiens are rebuilding, so they can afford to trade with the enemy if it results in them landing a nice return for the veteran defenseman. Thus, a trade to Toronto does not seem too far-fetched.

The Maple Leafs could use another defenseman before the deadline, and Edmundon stands out as a solid candidate because of it. After all, he plays a very heavy game and has been noted for his defensive reliability. Nevertheless, we will now need to wait and see if these two rivals end up striking a deal before the deadline passes from here.
