Montreal Canadiens' Top Trade Candidate This Season

The Montreal Canadiens have a number of players they could be potentially moving to if there is a market for them. Among the group is Sean Monahan, Evgeni Dadonov, Jonathan Drouin, Joel Edmundson, Mike Hoffman, and Josh Anderson. I don't expect half of those players to be moved this season, and if they are, it'll be for a very small return.

Now the Canadiens took on Monahan from the Calgary Flames and got a first round pick in the process. The plan all along was to have him play well enough to flip him at the trade deadline. That is becoming a reality as he has put up six goals and 17 points in 25 games as the second line centre and there is a market for him. There are a number of competitors looking to upgrade their centre position like the Boston Bruins, Carolina Hurricanes, and Colorado Avalanche.

Monahan has been dealing with injuries this season, but has been productive in his career resurgence when he has been healthy. The Canadiens are hoping to get a first round pick for the upcoming UFA at the deadline, and if there's competing parties, they may get their wish.

The Canadiens hope Monahan can get healthy soon and continue to showcase his ability while getting back up to game speed. That is their best shot at getting another pick in this year's stacked draft.
