NHL Rumors: New York Islanders & St. Louis Blues Talking Trade

The New York Islanders made a major splash when they acquired star center Bo Horvat from the Vancouver Canucks and then immediately inked him to an eight-year extension. Yet, it appears that the Islanders are not done making moves, as they are one of the teams linked to St. Louis Blues forward Ivan Barbashev, according to The Fourth Period.

Barbashev has been informed that the Blues are not going to sign him to a new contract, so a trade seems inevitable at this juncture. However, an exact destination has not been determined yet, as there are several teams looking to bring in the forward. It ultimately makes sense, as Barbashev offers a nice mixture of solid secondary scoring, strong defensive play, and immense physicality. As a result, he is built for the playoffs, and he could be a big addition for a team like the Islanders.

Barbashev would provide the Islanders with a nice upgrade in their middle six, so we will need to wait and see if they end up being the lucky squad to acquire him before the trade deadline passes from here.
