NHL Rumors: Sabres & Canucks Emerging as Possible Trading Partners

The Buffalo Sabres have been one of the NHL's biggest surprises this season, and there's a real chance that they could make the postseason because of it. They only trail the Pittsburgh Penguins by one point for the final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference, so we certainly cannot rule them out. As a result, for the first time in a long time, they could be buyers at the deadline. With all of this, there are now rumblings that they are interested in Vancouver Canucks defenseman Luke Schenn.

Schenn is one of the most appealing trade targets heading into the deadline, as he is having an excellent season and sports a very low cap hit. Therefore, teams looking to beef up the right side of their defensive group will surely be in the running for Schenn. The Sabres could definitely use him on their second pairing due to his immense physicality and steady defensive play. With that, he would be a wonderful mentor for their younger players due to his plethora of experience.

On paper, there seems to be a real match here, but as stated above, there are going to be several teams aiming to acquire Schenn at the deadline. We will need to wait and see if the Sabres end up being the lucky club that gets him from here.
