Seattle Kraken Rumors: Defenceman Getting Lots Of Trade Interest

It is no secret that the Seattle Kraken need to upgrade their defence before the trade deadline. They have been linked to a number of defencemen who can do that for them, but in doing so, will have to clear space on their back-end. The player that teams seem to be interested in is Will Borgen.

The 26-year-old defender has finally found a full-time role in the NHL, but is still averaging less than 16 minutes a game on the Kraken's back-end. He is trusted to kill penalties and is very physical. He is a solid sixth defenceman, but for a Seattle team that hopes to make some noise in the playoffs this season, they need someone who can provide even more offence and an impact.

Borgen has contributed a fair amount to the offence this season with two goals and 13 points. That is more than can be expected of someone with his limited playing time and without power-play time. He was chosen in the Kraken's expansion draft and has a $900,000 cap hit until the end of the season when he becomes a RFA.

I could see Borgen going to a non-contender in part of a return for a defensive upgrade, or to a contender looking for defensive depth. Trading him to a contender would garner the same results, moving him off the roster to create space for a more impactful player to come in and play in his role on the right side.
