3 Montreal Canadiens Not Expected Back in 2023-24

The Montreal Canadiens will continue their re-tool on the fly this upcoming offseason. General manager Kent Hughes won't be shy at the draft and he won't be shy when it comes to free agency as changes will be happening in Montreal these next few months. With the trade deadline passed, let's skip ahead to the upcoming offseason and showcase three Canadiens who likely won't be back in 2023-24:

Sean Monahan

If Sean Monahan was healthy, he would have been traded prior to the deadline this season. He's been great when he's been in the Canadiens lineup, recording 17 points in 25 games. As he's getting older and set to be a free agent for the first time in eight offseasons, look for Monahan to hit the open market and try to land one more multi-year deal.

Carey Price

Yes, not necessarily a surprise here as Carey Price isn't expected to suit up again for the Canadiens. It's been a hell of a run for the netminder's career and when he was at his peak, there was nobody better.

Jonathan Drouin

Talk about someone who needs a change of scenery, it's a surprise to some Jonathan Drouin didn't get moved at the trade deadline this season. He's a pending unrestricted free agent who has never met expectations in Montreal. This season, one where he's owed $5.5 million, Drouin has produced one goal in 41 games. Look for the shifty winger to hit the open market this summer and sign a one or two year deal somewhere else.
