3 Potential Trade Destinations for Montreal Canadiens' Mike Hoffman

Now that the NHL Trade Deadline has come and gone. We will look at players that could be on the move this offseason. The Montreal Canadiens have been absolutely terrible this season, and because of that, their offseason will be interesting. GM Kent Hughes will look to shop a few players who have longer-term deals. One of those players will most likely be Mike Hoffman, so here are 3 potential trade destinations for him.

Carolina Hurricanes

The Carolina Hurricanes learned this season that injuries can happen at the worst times. They are now without both Max Pacioretty and Andrei Svechnikov to season-ending injuries, leaving them a bit weak in the goal-scoring department. Carolina has a ton of players who can score goals from the dirty areas, but they will now lack a natural goal scorer after both players went down. As a result, this offseason they may look at a guy like Hoffman, and potentially get him at 50% retained. He is a six-time 25-goal scorer, who can produce in big moments for the Hurricanes.

Calgary Flames

The Calgary Flames need goal-scoring help as well. They have big-named players like Nazem Kadri, Jonathan Huberdeau and Elias Lindholm but this year it has appeared they have struggled. Due to the struggles of the Flames to score, they may be in the market for a scorer. Hoffman also can help the Flames with their power play, being the shooter on the unit alongside passers like the aforementioned Huberdeau.

Ottawa Senators

If we rewind to the 2009 NHL Draft, we will remember the fifth round when the Ottawa Senators drafted Mike Hoffman. He went on to play eight seasons with the organization, and there could be a chance that he could return. As mentioned before, there is a possibility that Montreal retains 50% of his salary, which could intrigue the Senators. Ottawa is a team that is on the brink of being a consistent playoff team and adding a veteran like Hoffman to their bottom six could help round out their roster.
