Canucks Rumors: Next Contract Of Hronek

The Vancouver Canucks went ahead and acquired Filip Hronek at the trade deadline in anticipation of the offseason and what they plan to do. His acquisition marks the likely upcoming trade of Tyler Myers as the team doesn't have an infinite amount of cap space to work with and their defence takes up a lot.

Frank Seravalli expects Hronek to get over $7 million AAV on his next deal and we could even see him get over $8 million AAV. He will be a restricted free agent at the end of next season, but seeing as Quinn Hughes is the prize on defence for the Canucks and makes $7.85 million AAV, it's difficult to see Hronek's number getting that high. The Canucks have Hronek at $4.4 million AAV until then which is a steal for the great numbers he's put up this season.

Hronek has already matched his career high in goals (9) and points (38) in just 60 games this season and the 25-year-old isn't even in his prime yet. In his fifth season, he is rounding out and turning into a strong two-way defenceman who the Canucks could really use long-term. If the cap starts to rise and the Canucks don't want to be at a standstill with Hronek next summer, it is a possibility he gets what he wants on his next contract, especially if he proves to be just as effective next season as he has been this season.
