NHL Rumors: Boston Bruins & Calgary Flames Talked Trade

The Boston Bruins had an eventful few weeks leading up to the 2023 Trade Deadline, as they acquired Dmitry Orlov, Garnet Hathaway, and Tyler Bertuzzi. Although adding that trio makes Boston look even stronger on paper, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported that they also had talks with the Calgary Flames about a Milan Lucic reunion.

Lucic is of course remembered most for his prime years as Bruin, as the 6-foot-4 winger was a big reason for their Stanley Cup win back in 2011. With Lucic having a connection with the Bruins players, it would have been very interesting to see him back in Boston, but a trade just did not come to fruition.

Lucic could have been a potential fourth-line option for the Bruins with Nick Foligno sidelined indefinitely, but bringing in Bertuzzi made it very challenging for Boston to fit him in. Alas, perhaps the Bruins could explore a reunion with Lucic when he hits free agency this offseason. It would cost them significantly less.

In 60 games this season, Lucic has five goals, nine assists, and 136 hits.
