Detroit Red Wings Rumors: Forward On Team's Radar

Before the 2023 NHL Trade Deadline passed, it was reported that the Detroit Red Wings and Philadelphia Flyers were set to strike a deal centering around James van Riemsdyk. However, the move was nixed at the last minute, and JVR finished the year as a Flyer. Yet, there are now rumblings that the Red Wings will make a push for the veteran winger in free agency this summer.

The Red Wings are hoping to take that next step in 2023-24 and finally become a playoff team again. They also have cap space to work with, so they are in a position to make several moves if they wish to. With the Red Wings needing a bit more secondary scoring, it would not be the worst idea ever to bring in a veteran forward like JVR.

van Riemsdyk appeared in 61 games with the Flyers this campaign, where he had 12 goals to go along with 29 points. If signed at an affordable cap hit, he could be a fine addition to the Red Wings' group. Alas, we will need to wait and see if the 33-year-old heads to Detroit from here.
