Los Angeles Kings Rumors: Goalie Available for Trade

The Los Angeles Kings' 2022-23 season is over, and now they are set to prepare for what should be a busy summer for them. The Kings are hoping to build on their roster as they aim to become legitimate contenders, but they need to free up cap space to make any more big moves. As a result, there are rumblings that they will shop goaltender Cal Petersen this offseason.

Petersen was expected to be the Kings' starting netminder for quite some time after he inked a three-year, $15 million contract extension with them. However, in the first season of his contract in 2022-23, Petersen struggled immensely, as he had a 3.75 goals-against average and .868 save percentage before being waived and sent down to the AHL. He has not been called up since.

Petersen's bad play mixed with his expensive cap hit makes him a difficult player to move. However, there certainly could be some rebuilding teams like the Chicago Blackhawks or Anaheim Ducks willing to take him on if they land a high draft pick or prospect with him.

Nevertheless, we will need to wait and see if the Kings can get his contract off the books this offseason.
