Seattle Kraken Rumors: Forward Not Expected Back Next Season

The Seattle Kraken are going to be losing a couple of players in the offseason and as their forward group has been very packed all season long, that is where the focus will be for us here. We all know Shane Wright will be part of the team next season and is going to get into the majority of the games, so where do they find a spot for him? 11 of the forwards on the team are either signed through next season or are restricted free agents and should stick around.

The only two players who are set to become unrestricted free agents are Ryan Donato and Jesper Froden. Of the two, Froden only played 14 games, averaged under 10 minutes of ice time per game, and recorded four assists. Whether they keep him around or not, losing the 28-year-old wouldn't be very impactful. Who the Kraken will feel the loss from is Donato who will likely be hitting free agency.

There isn't any room for Donato to grow or be elevated on Seattle and some of the younger players like Morgan Geekie, Eeli Tolvanen, or Wright would get opportunities before him. Donato, like all of the depth players on the Kraken, had an impressive season and will get interest in free agency. He could get another raise and will likely seek a destination where he can play more minutes. Even though he scored 14 goals and 27 points in 71 games as a fourth liner, there is more there and he has shown the ability to score in the past.
