Boston Bruins Sign Top Prospect
The Boston Bruins officially have one of their top prospects signed, as they have inked Mason Lohrei to a two-year, entry-level contract. At the NHL level, he will carry a $925,000 cap hit.
Lohrei is currently the Bruins' top defenseman prospect, so this is major news for Boston. Now that they have him under contract, he is set to play his first full professional season - whether that is with Boston or down in the AHL with the Providence Bruins.
Lohrei just put together an excellent collegiate campaign with Ohio State University, as he had four goals to go along with 32 points in 40 games. He also appeared in five games with Providence after signing a tryout with the AHL squad, where he recorded an assist.
The Bruins will be hoping that Lohrei's strong offensive game and physicality can lead to him becoming a mainstay in their lineup. The tools for him to become a top-four defenseman are there, so we will need to wait and see how much of an impact he can make for them from here.
