Minnesota Wild Rumors: Defenseman Becoming Trade Candidate

The Minnesota Wild are heading into the 2023 NHL Offseason with very limited cap space due to the Zach Parise and Ryan Suter buyout penalties. As a result, there are now rumblings that the Wild could trade pending RFA Calen Addison.

Addison is due for a raise after his impressive breakout season with the Wild in 2022-23. In 62 games, the 23-year-old scored three goals and recorded 29 points. That is certainly strong production from a young defenseman and the Wild would love to keep him, but it may not be possible with their other pending free agents and cap space trouble.

Several teams would love to add a skilled young defenseman like Addison if he is made available, as he has the potential to be a notable power-play special in the NHL. Some specific clubs to pay attention in potential trade talks include the Detroit Red Wings, New York Islanders, Ottawa Senators, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Seattle Kraken.
