Tampa Bay Lightning Sign Free Agent Goalie; Played 2022-23 In Sweden


That didn't take long.

Just one day after terminating his contract with Farjestads BK Karlstad in Sweden, goaltender Matt Tomkins has signed a two-year, two-way contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The 28-year-old impressed with a 20-12 record, a .911 save percentage, and a 2.53 goals-against average during the 2022-2023 season.

Tomkins was also impressive on the international stage, representing Canada in the Beijing 2022 Olympics with a remarkable .962 save percentage, a 1.01 goals-against average, and a shutout in three games.  

Selected in the seventh round of the 2012 NHL Draft, Tomkins spent four years in the Blackhawks' system without reaching the NHL.
