Edmonton Oilers Rumors: New Team Linked to Kailer Yamamoto

It is not a secret that the Edmonton Oilers want to move on from Kailer Yamamoto. They are in a cap crunch, and the 24-year-old's $3.1 million cap hit would be excellent to get off the books. It appears that one team is considering the prospect of acquiring him, as The Fourth Period is reporting that the Philadelphia Flyers are linked to the winger.

The Flyers are currently beginning their rebuild. Ivan Provorov has been dealt, while other players like Kevin Hayes, Carter Hart, Scott Laughton, and Travis Konecny are emerging as trade candidates. Thus, one may wonder why they would want to bring in a forward like Yamamoto. It is simple - the Oilers will likely need to add an asset with Yamamoto for a team to bring in his contract.

Yamamoto could use a change of scenery, as he had trouble finding his footing with the Oilers. The 2022-23 season was particularly underwhelming for him, as he posted 10 goals and 25 points in 59 games.

We will need to wait and see what the Oilers decide to do with Yamamoto from here but do not be surprised if the Flyers make a bigger push for him as we get this offseason started.
