Maple Leafs Re-Sign Pending Unrestricted Free Agent

The Toronto Maple Leafs have a lot of huge entries on their 'To Do' list this summer, with some big names hanging in the balance. But there's also some work to do around the fringes of the roster, and today they got one of those items checked off, re-signing pending UFA David Kampf to a multi-year deal.

It's a four-year deal with an official AAV of $2.4M, per Insider Chris Johnson. That's close to a million-dollar raise annually for the 28-year-old. The close-to-$10M commitment is probably a little rich (a lot rich?) for a fourth-line center, but the Leafs obviously liked what they saw from Kampf over the past two seasons.
He's coming off two years in Toronto in which he's been remarkably consistent. His 27 points and 15:18 TOI this past season follows a 26-point year in 15:16 TOI in 2021-22, while playing all 82 games both years. His defensive contributions in the bottom-six and on the penalty-kill remained solid.

Kampf, out of the Czech Republic, spent the first four seasons of his career with the Chicago Blackhawks.

This is new Leafs GM Brad Treliving's first official order of business. Leafs Nation is hoping for something a bit more impactful with his next move.
