Montreal Canadiens Re-Sign Sean Monahan

Take one of the best pending free agents off the market as the Montreal Canadiens have re-signed Sean Monahan to a one-year contract extension worth $1.95 million. A great value deal for the Canadiens as Monahan showed some flashes of brilliance during his first season as a Hab.

This contract surprised a few people across the NHL as they felt Monahan could capitalize on a weak free-agent market and land a bigger contract. Instead, he'll be sticking around as a Canadien for another season and will be an enticing trade chip come the deadline next spring.

The 28-year-old forward registered 17 points in 25 games last season in Montreal. He suffered a season-ending injury on December 5 and has been rehabbing this summer to get back to full strength in time for training camp in September.

A former first-round pick of the Calgary Flames, Monahan has recorded 479 career points in 681 NHL games, and also has chipped in with 21 points in 30 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
