Washington Capitals Rumors: Anthony Mantha Linked to New Team

The Washington Capitals have been actively shopping Anthony Mantha, but his poor 2022-23 season and $5.7 million cap hit have made it hard for them to find him a new home. It is getting to a point where the Caps will likely be forced to send another asset or two with Mantha to move him. As a result, the rebuilding Chicago Blackhawks are emerging as a possible landing spot for him.

The Blackhawks have not been afraid to take on bad contracts for sweeteners since beginning their rebuild. Chicago also has plenty of cap space to work with, so they could very well bring in an expensive player like Mantha if it results in them landing, say, a second-round pick and/or prospect with it.

Although Mantha struggled in 2022-23, he is a bounce-back candidate next season when looking at his past success. Perhaps a change of scenery and receiving more meaningful minutes with the Blackhawks could be exactly what sparks that. Furthermore, with the Blackhawks winning the Connor Bedard sweepstakes, they will need to add forwards to help him.

Nevertheless, we will need to wait and see if the Blackhawks do Washington a solid and bring in Mantha from here.
