Detroit Red Wings Sign Center to Five-Year Deal

The Detroit Red Wings have landed one of the biggest names in this year's free agency class, signing J.T. Compher to a five-year, $25.5 million contract.

Compher was one of the top centers available in free agency, and he has gotten himself this big contract because of it. The Red Wings were looking for help down the middle, too, and now they have landed their possible second-line center in Compher.

Compher offers great versatility, too, so he also could be an option to play right wing. With that, his solid two-way play should allow him to see time on both their power play and penalty kill.

Compher is coming off of the best season of his NHL career with the Colorado Avalanche. In 82 games played, he scored 17 goals and recorded 52 points. If he can replicate this production for the Red Wings from here, he should be an impactful signing for the Red Wings.

Nevertheless, we will now need to wait and see how well Compher performs for Detroit from here.
