Capitals Rumors: Another Top-6 Forward Could Be Added Before Season

The Washington Capitals have been busy this offseason, but so have their divisional opponents. It is going to be a heavy race to the finish, not only for a playoff spot, but for positioning. After the Capitals failed to reach the postseason for the first time in a long time, they realize that they have to go for it with the few remaining years of Alex Ovechkin they have.

That brings us to the thought process of the Capitals general manager, Brian MacLellan, who, when asked if he expects any additional moves before camp, he said, "There could be. He had a few discussions at the draft - it might carry forward or it might not carry forward...we'll see where it goes here." So far the Capitals have traded for Joel Edmundson and signed Max Pacioretty, who is a wildcard depending on his health.

MacLellan was also asked if the position he's looking to address is a top-6 forward, to which he confirmed. Tom Wilson was just signed to a long-term deal, so any trade rumors of him leaving have been wiped away. There still remains the question of Evgeny Kuznetsov and Anthony Mantha. The latter hasn't proven that he's top-six material in Washington since arriving. A move to add another top-6 forward will have to also come with the Capitals moving money out as they are at the cap. Watch for them to be active and potentially make a trade before the season starts.
