Carson Soucy's Canucks Debut to Be Delayed Significantly Due To Injury

A tough break for the Vancouver Canucks as one of their significant offseason additions, Carson Soucy, will be on the sidelines for some time to start the season.

Head coach Rick Tocchet is calling Soucy "week to week" after the defenseman suffered a lower-body injury in their preseason game Friday night.

There's no other information on the injury at the moment, but at "week to week" it's obviously not insignificant.

The 29-year-old left-shot D-man was signed to a three-year, $9.75M contract in free agency this summer, with a $3.25M cap hit.

For as long as Soucy is out, the Canucks will be challenged to shore up their defensive pairings. Another left-shot blueliner, Guillaume Brisebois, is already hurting and won't make the opening day lineup.

Soucy registered 16 points and a plus-18 in 78 games with the Seattle Kraken last season, his fourth full season in the NHL.
