Columbus Blue Jackets Hammered With Injuries

Apparently the injury bug loves to eat Blue Jackets as Columbus announced on Wednesday that defenseman Adam Boqvist, goaltender Elvis Merzlikins and forward Cole Sillinger have all been placed on injured reserve.

Tough blow for the Blue Jackets who continue to bottom feed. Boqvist and Merzlikins IR stints are retroactive back to Decemeber 5th. Boqvist is expected to miss four weeks and was just starting to come into his own this season. Certainly a tough blow for both the team and the player.

Merzlikins on the other hand is dealing with an illness and is expected to miss roughly one week. As for Sillinger, he's listed as day-to-day with an upper-body injury that he suffered last week against the Montreal Canadiens. His IR stint is retro back to Nov.26, when the Jackets battled it out with the Carolina Hurricanes.

As for production, Boqvist had recorded three assists in 13 games, Sillinger had nine points in 24 games, meanwhile Merzlikins had posted a .910Sv.% and 3.10GAA in 19 games this season.

The Blue Jackets have called up defenseman Nick Blankenburg, forward Emil Bemstrom and goaltender Jet Greaves from the American Hockey League’s Cleveland Monsters.
