Former NHLer Makes Waves With Wild Elias Pettersson Rumor

A former NHL player has made headlines with a wild rumour about impending restricted free agent Elias Pettersson of the Vancouver Canucks. According To Matt Murley on the Spittin' Chiclets podcast, Pettersson wants to team up with Connor Bedard on the Chicago Blackhawks next season.

“Do not be surprised if you see Elias Pettersson try to make his way to the Chicago Blackhawks to be with Bedard next year," said Murley in dropping his bomb. "I can see him moving out of there, and what a place to go to. That’s a team that’s got the cap space, right?”

That certainly got the oohs and ahhs going not only on the podcast, but around the hockey world.

Insider Elliotte Friedman addressed it Friday morning:

"The one thing I’ll say about Matt Murley: He’s not an idiot. He hears things. People talk to him. (But) about this one—I think it’s premature.

"I think that here on December 29th, I guarantee that Pettersson hates that this is a thing right now... But what I would say is, there’s one person who can stop all this (talk)—and that’s Pettersson. I believe that the Vancouver Canucks have decided, when Pettersson is ready, they are going to throw an incredible-sized bag of cash at him."

Remember, Canucks fans: Pettersson is only a restricted free agent, so it's still all in the team's control, and there's certainly no need to panic on this one just yet.
