Blues Rumors: Veteran Defenseman Named Top Trade Candidate

The St. Louis Blues are going to be a team to watch very closely at the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline. Due to an ongoing five-game winning streak, they are now right back in the playoff race. As a result, there is a chance that they could end up being buyers this season.

However, if things go south over these next few weeks, they could also decide to be sellers. If this scenario occurs, the most likely Blue who would be traded is defenseman Marco Scandella, according to The Athletic's Jeremy Rutherford.

Here is what Rutherford said about Scandella as a possible trade candidate: "Now, the defenseman could be someone who attracts attention as we head toward the deadline. The 33-year-old may not fetch a lot, but as a third-pair player who can play on the penalty kill, he could yield the Blues as high as a third-round draft pick."

Scandella, 33, has appeared in 43 games this season for the Blues, where he has two goals, three assists, 46 hits, and a plus-2 rating. While he has not been dominating the NHL offensively by any stretch, his steady defensive play could lead to some teams calling, as Rutherford notes.

The Blues' next few weeks will determine if a pending UFA like Scandella will be dealt. We will need to wait and see what happens with the veteran d-man from here.
