Canadiens Rumors: New Suitor Emerges for Sean Monahan

The Montreal Canadiens are expected to be busy at the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline. One player on their roster who is likely to be moved is pending unrestricted free agent (UFA) Sean Monahan. The Colorado Avalanche and the Winnipeg Jets have been the primary suitors in the sweepstakes over the last few weeks, but now, a new team is showing interest in him. According to The Fourth Period, the New York Rangers are linked to the skilled forward.
The Rangers are in a position to add a player like Monahan. Filip Chytil has been sidelined since early on in the season due to a long-term concussion, and there is no guarantee of when he will be back. Because of this, the Rangers would be smart to add another center, and Monahan could be a great replacement as their third-line center.

Monahan, 29, has appeared in 43 games this season with the Canadiens, where he has 11 goals to go along with 25 points. Overall, it has been a strong season for him offensively, but more importantly, he also has been staying healthy. That naturally adds to his overall appeal as a trade target.

As the deadline continues to get closer, more teams are going to make a big push for Monahan. It will be fun to see if the Rangers end up being the team that lands him from here.
