Columbus Blue Jackets Goalie Placed On Waivers

The Columbus Blue Jackets have placed goaltender Spencer Martin on waivers.

Martin is no stranger to the waiver wire, as he was claimed off waivers by the Blue Jackets from the Vancouver Canucks earlier this season. Now, the 28-year-old could be on the move again if another team decides to bring him in.

The Blue Jackets have been running with Martin, Elvis Merzlikins, and Daniil Tarasov as their goalies at the NHL level, but now they will be going with a more traditional two-goalie system. With this, Merzlikins, who has been sitting out a lot since the start of the new year, should end up getting more consistent starts leading up to the deadline. Remember, he has requested a trade.

Yet, back to Martin, teams looking for a little more insurance in the net could consider bringing him in. He has had some struggles this season, however, as he has a 3-8-1 record, a .365 GAA, and a .887 SV%.

Martin has appeared in 51 career game NHL games split between the Colorado Avalanche, Canucks, and Blue Jackets, where he has a 17-25-6 record, a 3.63 GAA, and a .886 SV%. We will now need to wait and see if another team gives him the chance to improve upon these career stats through a waiver claim from here.
