Flyers' Sean Walker Linked To Western Conference Contender

The Philadelphia Flyers are still holding down a playoff spot as many wait for them to finally drop off. There is still time for that to happen, and even if they are on the cusp of playoffs at the trade deadline, there is the thought that they will sell a couple of pieces and look towards the near future.

A piece that many teams will be interested in is Sean Walker, but Jeff Marek linked the Edmonton Oilers to him. This team that started at the depths of the league, has worked their way back to third in their division and well on their way to second. They really need an upgrade in the top-four on the right side over Cody Ceci. Marek said, "I still think (the Oilers are) looking out there on defense. That's the one thing I think they're really looking at."

This kind of trade involving both players could work for both sides. The Flyers get Ceci for that extra year while the Oilers get a new defense partner for Darnell Nurse and hopefully shore up that pairing. As far as the Oilers' defense pairings go, Ceci and Nurse is what is hurting them and only a trade is going to help Edmonton.

This will cost the Oilers, but likely not a ton since Ceci isn't a worthless asset. Walker is proving to be a more valuable asset than the Los Angeles Kings gave him credit for last season when they eventually sent him over to the Flyers. Although there were reports that Walker was interested in staying in Philadelphia, there has been no contract signed yet. If he makes it to the trade deadline without one and the Flyers fall in the standings a bit, you can assume he will be dealt and the Oilers are a top team to watch for.
