Golden Knights Claim Defenseman Off Waivers From Kings

When it was announced that the Los Angeles Kings placed defenseman Tobias Bjornfot on waivers, it seemed quite possible that another team would claim him, as he is a former first-round pick with upside. In the end, this has now officially happened, as the Vegas Golden Knights have claimed him.

This is certainly an interesting development, as the Kings and Golden Knights are big rivals and are currently fighting in the top half of the Pacific Division standings. Now, the Golden Knights are taking one of the Kings' former top prospects for free, and it will be fun to see if the change of scenery helps Bjornfot get his development back on track.

Due to the Kings' deep defensive depth, Bjornfot became the odd man out on their blue line this season. He has only played in one game this campaign because, where he was held off of the scoresheet. However, with this move to the Golden Knights, there is a good chance that he will start getting consistent playing time when looking at their current group.

Bjornfot has appeared in 117 career NHL games, all with the Kings, where he has one goal, 15 points, and a minus-18 rating. While he has not been able to become a full-time NHL defenseman at this point of his career, perhaps this move to the Golden Knights will allow him to take that next step.

Overall, this is a classic low-risk addition for the Golden Knights.
