LA Kings Call Up Top Prospect & Place D-Man On Waivers

The Los Angeles Kings have made some notable moves. First, top prospect Brandt Clarke has been up to the NHL squad, while 2019 first-round pick Tobias Bjornfot has been placed on waivers by the club.

Kings fans have been calling for Clarke to be called up, and it is entirely understandable when seeing how well he has done during his first full season with the Ontario Reign thus far. In 30 AHL games on the campaign, the 6-foot-2 defenseman has seven goals to go along with 32 points and a plus-4 rating.

This is exactly the kind of season that the Kings were hoping Clarke would have in the AHL. The 2021 eighth-overall pick has all the tools to blossom into a top-pairing defenseman at the NHL level later down the road, and now we are set to see him get into his first action this season as a King with this promotion. In his first nine NHL games, he has two assists.

Bjornfot, on the other hand, could get the attention of some teams on the waiver wire. As noted above, he is a former first-round pick, so some clubs may feel that he still has good upside. With that, he is still only 22 years old, so perhaps a change of scenery may do him some good at this point.

Bjornfot has appeared in 117 career NHL games with the Kings, where he has one goal, 14 assists, and a minus-18 rating. During this season, the Kings only dressed him once, and he was held off of the scoresheet.
