Senators Rumors: Defenseman Named as Potential Trade Candidate

Although the Ottawa Senators headed into the 2023-24 season with the expectation of being a playoff team again, they have been far from that. Instead, they are one of the worst teams in the NHL standings and are gearing up to be sellers yet again at the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline.

Players like Jakob Chychrun, Vladimir Tarasenko, and Dominik Kubalik have come up in the rumor mill a lot over these last few weeks, but now, there is another Senators player worth paying attention to. In a recent article for The Athletic, Chris Johnston and Harman Dayal listed Senators defenseman Erik Brannstrom as one of the players.

Brannstrom is no stranger to the rumor mill, as his name has come up in it in the past. With the Senators having several left-shot defensemen on their roster, it has been hard for Brannstrom to take that next step in his development, so it would make sense to move him for the right return.

Brannstrom is still young enough where he could attract interest from rebuilding teams, but he also could garner interest from playoff clubs looking to improve the left side of their defense.

We will need to wait and see what happens with Brannstrom from here. Some clubs who could consider targeting him include the San Jose Sharks, Los Angeles Kings, Chicago Blackhawks, and Washington Capitals.
