Sharks Rumors: Forward Listed as Trade Candidate

The San Jose Sharks are gearing up for a big 2024 NHL Trade Deadline as sellers. It is understandable, as they are the worst team in the NHL and are currently sporting a disastrous 11-game losing streak. Because of this, several players are picking up steam in the rumor mill. Forward Kevin Labanc is one of them, as Sportsnet listed the veteran winger on their latest trade candidates board.

This is not the first time Labanc has come up in the rumor mill. That is the case not only for this season but also for last year. However, the primary reason why he has not been moved yet is because of his contract. Yet, now that he is on an expiring deal, the Sharks are likely more open to retaining half of his salary, which would make him far easier to move.

Labanc could certainly use a change of scenery, as he struggled with the rebuilding Sharks over the last few seasons. This campaign has not been any different, as he has one goal, six points, and a minus-16 rating. Although he has struggled, teams may still target him, as he has been a solid middle-six forward for a large portion of his career.

Labanc posted 15 goals and 33 points in 72 games just last season, so he has the potential to be a solid secondary scorer in a bottom-six role for a playoff team. We will need to wait and see if the Sharks end up moving him before the trade deadline passes from here.
