Flames Trade Rumors: Calgary's Asking for A LOT in Chris Tanev Deal

The Calgary Flames are not done wheeling and dealing ahead of the March 8 trade deadline and next up on the chopping block could be defensive defenseman Chris Tanev.

Once Elias Lindholm was dealt to the Vancouver Canucks, the attention immediately turned to Tanev, who at one point, was even rumored to be included in the original blockbuster with Lindholm. Those talks obviously dissolved, however the fact is, Tanev's going to be available for the highest bidder as the Flames are re-tooling on the fly.

Pierre LeBrun of TSN reports the organization is looking for at least a second-round pick and a prospect, however, some teams, like the Toronto Maple Leafs don't have a second-rounder for awhile, so then the price goes up to a first.

Tanev is 34 years old, a pending unrestricted free agent and making $4.5 million AAV this season. His trade protection is for 10 teams of his choice, however the Leafs and Canucks who he's been linked to the most so far this season, are two teams he'd approve. He's recorded nine points in 46 games this season.

Regardless of where the Flames are sitting in the standings in a month, look for GM Craig Conroy to cash in on Tanev's stock and recoup some assets for the future of the organization.
