Lightning Trade Rumors: Tampa Bay GM Actively Shopping for D

The Tampa Bay Lightning have lost defenseman Mikhail Sergachev likely for the season after suffering a gruesome leg injury earlier this week and now, the Lightning have some holes to fill. Look out for GM Julien BriseBois ahead of the March 8 trade deadline, it sounds like Tampa Bay is up to something.

Sergachev is owed $8.5 million against the cap and if he hits LTIR, as expected, BriseBois will be open to realm of possibilities. The Lightning are in the market primarily for a defenseman and have been recently linked to Nick Seeler and Sean Walker of the Philadelphia Flyers. With the cap space coming available ahead of the deadline, there's also a chance they add another middle-six forward, so a blockbuster to consider could be with the Flyers and also including centre Scott Laughton in the deal. Flyers GM Daniel Briere recently put Laughton on the market to gauge interest and so far it's been quite high.

The Calgary Flames are another team to watch as they have several trade candidates who are being discussed in trades. GM Craig Conroy has already been busy this season moving Nikita Zadorov and Elias Lindholm to the Vancouver Canucks and right now is in talks about Chris Tanev and Noah Hanifin. Two defenseman the Lightning could use for their playoff push this spring.

Keep an eye on the Lightning. They also seem to find a way to add ahead of the deadline and have shown in recent years, especially with the Tanner Jeannot trade, they are willing to make bold moves that leaves people scratching their heads.
