Senators Are "Taking A Look" At Coyotes' Defenseman

The Ottawa Senators are a little far out of a playoff spot with only 32 games to go in the season, but that hasn't stopped them from looking at what they can change for next season or the rest of the season. One name in particular they have been linked to is Matt Dumba as Bruce Garrioch said that the Senators are taking a look at Dumba ahead of the trade deadline this season.

The Arizona Coyotes have been falling fairly quickly out West and will likely sell again. They have been more competitive than some expected and are still trying to build a winner. While this doesn't seem realistic this season, moving players like Dumba that the team likely won't re-sign is a good move.

The Senators are looking for a more stable right side of their defense, and Dumba could be a good fit for the second/third pairing. He has logged just over 20 minutes a night on the Coyotes' second pairing this season and the Senators need to make changes so that they don't continue to repeat losing year after year. Dumba could be a start as the team could get him for fairly cheap and have the time to talk extension with him for the remainder of the season while also seeing if he is a fit.

It's not very often you see non contenders pick someone up at the deadline, but that may start to change as more was expected of the Senators and there is now new management running things.
