Flyers Rumors: Cam Atkinson Finished in Philly

The Philadelphia Flyers remain a team to watch ahead of the March 8 trade deadline as they've been getting a ton of calls on two defensemen, Sean Walker and Nick Seeler. Turns out that may not be the only trades happening in Philly as Cam Atkinson has recently been healthy scratched and now could be on his way out before the deadline.

Flyers coach John Tortorella recently commented on taking Atkinson out of the lineup and had this to say about the veteran winger:

He's going to wait his turn, and if I think it's time for him to come back in, I hope he sticks in. It really isn't confusing for me. I respect all our athletes no matter what their status is - veteran, young guy, this, that, the other thing. I just try to keep it right on the table: If you play well, you're going to get more minutes. If you play really bad, you're out, and I'm going to try someone else, and you're going to have to wait your turn. It's pretty simple. I'm not going to run the bench based on what people think about you or where you sit as a veteran guy, a captain. I just don't do it that way

The 34-year-old Atkinson is signed through next season at $5.87 million AAV and holds a 10-team modified no-trade clause. So far this season, he's appeared in 58 games, scoring 13 times and adding 15 assists.

While he's not the player he once was, Atkinson can still produce among a top-nine forward group and there's several playoff-bound teams looking to scoring on the wing. Look for the Vegas Golden Knights, Edmonton Oilers, and Colorado Avalanche to kick tires on the asking price. Right now is a great time to buy low in the Flyers winger.
