Penguins Rumors: 3 Contract Extension Candidates

The 2024 NHL Trade Deadline saw several teams make moves, and the league looks far different now because of it. However, now that the deadline has passed, we won’t see any more trades until after the season. Although this is the case, we still could see teams sign players to contract extensions. As a result, we here at NHLTR will be going over three contract extension candidates from each team.

In this latest edition of the series, we will be looking at the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Alex Nedeljkovic: Alex Nedeljkovic has worked well as the Penguins' backup goalie, and they could look to sign him to a contract extension because of it. He is unlikely to command too much money, too, so that also adds to his appeal as an extension candidate.

Pierre-Olivier Joseph: Pierre-Olivier Joseph has had a tough season. In 38 games, he has just five assists to go along with a minus-10 rating. While this campaign has been a step back for the left-shot defenseman, they still could look to extend, as he is just 24 years old and a former first-round pick.

Emil Bemstrom: Emil Bemstrom has been a decent fit with the Penguins since being traded there by the Columbus Blue Jackets earlier this season. When noting that he is a pending RFA and only 24 years old, there's a good chance that he will be back next season.
