Senators Rumors: 3 Contract Extension Candidates

The 2024 NHL Trade Deadline saw several teams make moves, and the league looks far different now because of it. However, now that the deadline has passed, we won’t see any more trades until after the season. Although this is the case, we still could see teams sign players to contract extensions. As a result, we here at NHLTR will be going over three contract extension candidates from each team.

In this latest edition of the series, we will be looking at the Ottawa Senators.

Shane Pinto: Shane Pinto's 2023-24 season started in a disastrous fashion, as he received a 41-game suspension for violating the NHL's gambling rules. However, since serving it, he has been excellent for the Senators, posting seven goals, 20 points, and a plus-9 rating. He has taken a step forward with his game this season, and his next contract should reflect that.

Erik Brannstrom: Erik Brannstrom is a pending RFA who the Senators should look. to sign to a new deal. While he has come up in the rumor mill at times over the last few seasons, he is still young enough where he can improve. Thus, maybe he could stick around.

Parker Kelly: Parker Kelly is another pending RFA who could get an extension from the Sens. The gritty winger has a career high 14 points this season in 65 games. However, his physicality is his biggest attribute, as he has 137 hits. That should help his case of sticking around in a bottom-six role with the Senators.
