Hurricanes Given Brutal Brett Pesce Injury News

During the Carolina Hurricanes' Game 2 matchup against the New York Islanders, defenseman Brett Pesce left the game with a non-contact, lower-body injury. Naturally, as a key defenseman in Carolina's lineup, there has been plenty of concern about him among Canes fans. Now, an update has been provided, but it is just brutal news.

According to Luke DeCock of The News & Observer, Pesce is likely to miss the rest of the first round and will likely be out for a couple weeks at least.

Losing Pesce for the rest of the series is simply rough news for the Hurricanes. While they have a 2-0 series lead over the Islanders, it is still concerning that they are now going to be without one of their top shutdown defensemen.

Pesce, 29, appeared in 70 games this season with the Hurricanes, where he had three goals, 13 points, and a plus-10 rating. In his two playoff games against the Islanders, he had an assist and a plus-1 rating.

It will be interesting to see how the Canes respond without Pesce in their lineup from here.
