Maple Leafs Sign Prospect Cade Webber to ELC

The Toronto Maple Leafs have made a roster move with the playoffs just about here, as they have signed defenseman Cade Webber to a two-year, entry-level contract. His ELC begins immediately, and he is traveling with the team.

Webber, 23, was acquired by the Maple Leafs from the Carolina Hurricanes at the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick. The Hurricanes selected Webber with the 99th pick of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, but he will instead be beginning his professional career as a Maple Leaf.

Webber spent each of the last four seasons with Boston University. Over that span, the 6-foot-7 defenseman had one goal to go along with 16 points in 123 games with the school. During the 2023-24 campaign with Boston University, he had six assists in 38 games played. Due to his strong defensive play, he was named Hockey East's Best Defensive Defenseman for this campaign.

Webber will provide the Maple Leafs with more depth as they prepare for the postseason. The youngster is viewed as having the potential to become an impactful shutdown defenseman in the NHL. It will be intriguing to see how much of an impact he can make while with the Maple Leafs from here.
