Penguins Rumors: Pierre-Olivier Joseph Becoming Trade Candidate

The Pittsburgh Penguins had a disappointing 2023-24 season that saw them miss out on the playoffs for the second straight year. After another underwhelming campaign, it is quite apparent that the Penguins will make some changes to their group this summer.

Penguins defenseman Pierre-Olivier Joseph is one player to watch very closely this offseason. His name came up near the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline, and it is clear that the young defenseman could use a change of scenery at this point.

Joseph, 24, has a quiet season with the Penguins, as he had two goals, 11 points, and a minus-3 rating in 52 games. The 2017 first-round pick was expected to take a step forward in his development, but he instead had a down year. Because of this, his spot in the Penguins' defense is far from set in stone heading into next season.

When noting that Joseph has good upside and is a former top prospect, there could be a team in the NHL willing to take a shot on him. We will now need to wait and see if Joseph ends up being dealt to a new team this offseason from here.
